Pleasant Hill, Contra Costa County
Pleasant Hill incorporated in 1961, after orchards and vineyards in the middle of Contra Costa County gave way to postwar housing. Diablo Valley College, founded in 1949, moved to its hillside campus here in the early 1950s and is one of the largest community colleges in the Bay Area. A trail along the Contra Costa Canal crosses the city from end to end.
